The Deception in our Lives Most Often Comes

 From Worldly Thinking

1) WORLDLY OR ETERNAL?

   Worldly thinking

the pursuit of pleasure in conflict with God’s will.

2) PLEASING OURSELVES

At times pleasing ourselves in the moment is at the expense of others

3) THE SHORT-SIGHTED AND THE PLANNERS

THE SHORT-SIGHTED

God wants us to have eternal thinking.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.

We are also challenged to consider the future when it comes to our earthly lives.

The command to work six days and rest on one

   “work with your hands” and

“so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

Everything we “have” does not belong to us.

God’s clear ownership

We give God what He already owns.

Our use of worldly wealth really matters!

So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

Planning leads to financial security.

EXCESSES AND WASTE

  • Excessive Spending

a foolish man devours all he has.”

  • Wasting Resources

When we throw good food or other things into the garbage, we should consider who owns them.

  • Consequences of Excesses and Waste

he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.”

People who are poor typically spend a great deal of time thinking about money.

  • Difficulty now or difficulty later.

two choices, difficulty now or difficulty later.

  • Learn from our mistakes

  • Use of Time

making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

THE PLANNER

we believe that we are in control of our future.

"If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast and brag.

We should do our best and leave the results in God’s hands.

4) Practicing future thinking in a Godly way

What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?”

5) OUR IDENTITY

We have an identity as “a chosen people.”

6) Our time on Earth

Our time on this Earth and for eternity is all about God and his glory.

it takes work to keep our focus vertically.

  • Horizontal versus Vertical thinking

as he took his eyes off of Jesus, he faltered.

·       Where is the deception?

It is in every sense that gives us pleasure or gives us pain.

the value of our lives at least for that moment is reduced

   to not love the world.

We need to see the world as a passing thing,

Both worrying about what we don’t have or treasuring what we do can result in deception

7) A FOCUS ON PEOPLE CAN ALSO RESULT IN US BEING DECEIVED:

we’re deceived into believing that a person has the power to reduce the value of our life.

8) SUMMARY OF DESIRING RICHES OR BEING RICH

There are some habits we can build that will help us not become deceived.

9) SEEING JESUS CLEARLY DISSOLVES EARTHLY DECEPTION

Knowing God as He is, knowing Jesus perfectly removes all deception.

   "Turn your eyes upon Jesus

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
