    LOVING GOD

Consider three ways you spend time with God.

    1. Reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on His Word.

o  How would you describe the amount of time you spend doing these?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

o   If there’s room for improvement, what specifically can you do differently? (ex: read an extra 10 minutes before getting up) ___________________________________________________________________________________

    1.  Praying at a set aside time.
      • How would you describe the amount of time you spend doing so?

    1. Talking to God and seeking how God is communicating with you throughout the day.
      •  How would you describe the amount of time you spend doing so? _________________________________________________________
      •  If there’s room for improvement, what specifically can you do differently? (ex: set a timer on your phone to go off each hour to remind you to look vertically and reflect on God’s perspective of what you’re going through)

Considering these three aspects of obedience.

    1. Saying no to ungodliness.

o  What do you find yourself giving into either out of choice or habit that doesn’t please God?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   Confess it

o  What do you gain long term by continuing in sin?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    1. Making choices to do what is right. This part isn’t about how we treat others. It could be going to church, taking care of our bodies, the parts above about time in the Word and prayer. Read Jam 4:17.  What aren’t you doing that could please God?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    1. Doing everything for God.  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Col 3:23-24 For more depth on this, look at the foundation about the houses on rock and sand.
      • What parts of your life don’t you include God in

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

      • How can you do what you’re doing now but do it for God?

    LOVING OTHERS

    1. Read James 1:27 What do you do to take care of the truly needy either with time or money?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    1. Meditate that we are to become Christ-like and what Christ was like.  “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matt 20:28
    2. Name three family members or friends who you spend most of your time with.  List one or two of these that makes them feel most loved? (Quality time, gifts, service, words of affirmation or touch)  If you don’t know, ask them.

    3. What specifically can you do to show love to them?

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    o   ____________________________________________________________________________________

    1. Consider your overall attitude as you engage others.  In what ways is it not consistent with this verse? Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Phil 2:4

    1. As you interact with people throughout the day, what can you do to show love to them?  For example, smile, compliment, offer to help. Name some people or situations where you can do a better job of loving and what specific action you can take.
