INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE

Aspects of our Christian walk

·       Doctrines of the Christian Faith (Basic Doctrines)

·       Disciplines of the Christian Faith (Guide for Christian Living)

·       Doing: Application of key Biblical Truths (Foundations Study)

GOAL

The goal of Foundations is to remind both seasoned believers of and to teach new believers about perspectives that are foundational to our walk with God. The enemy’s goal is to blind everyone to the truth. This fresh look at God’s desire for our lives is a deep one. This is not a quick read. It is a look into one’s life through the lens of Biblical truths. That takes time and introspection. Perspectives gained are only useful if we continue to remember them. We need to know them deeply, and live our lives consistently with these truths. For best results, pray, go slow and take notes.

STUDY GUIDE USE

This is where one comes face to face with where their personal life is not consistent with truth. The answers for the most part will be unique to the individual. To use an old cliché, you will get out of this what you put into it. The expected answers are designed to help each person learn about their relationship with God, what it was designed to look like, where they fall short, and how they can refocus and abide with Christ. It should be expected that some questions will be hard to answer. Leave them blank and come back to them each time you return to the study guide. Rather than start with a new topic, start at the first blank question. When there is no answer that individually applies, mark it as such.

A lifetime of review.  As this is completed, it becomes a personal guide to change. Each person will have written their own plan to live more consistently in truth. The noise of the world along with the temptations of Satan will work hard to keep people from completing this study and as time goes on using the personal answers as a guide to keep truth front and center in one’s life. When one reads through their answers in months and years ahead, it’s best to make note of where important personal improvement is needed.

In a weekly Bible Study Group: Leader Guide

Foundations are broken into 14 topics. It will be thought provoking and allow a wide range of answers for the group leader to ask the same question for each of the following.  “What do you think about:

·       the topic name and overview?

·       each of the earthly parallels?

·       each application?

·       each verse?

The answers are not typically the kind of answers one can share with the person next to them to properly fill in the blanks. Many of the answers are personal in nature and it should be made clear that nobody should look at another person’s answers without permission. That said, some may be willing to share personal answers. That type of sharing, confessing to one’s shortcomings in a group can help those who are reluctant to admit their own shortcomings on their Study Guide to do so. Much of the time there will not be enough class time to finish answering all the questions so encourage everyone to finish during the week.
